IOMEGA ZIP DRIVE

TO BACKUP YOUR FILES:

1) Double-click on the Iomega Tools folder on the "desktop."

2) Double-click on the "1-Step Backup for Zip & Jaz."

3) Click on the Customize button.

4) Click on the General tab.

5) Click on Change settings and start a new Backup Job  (-or- leave it on  View settings for current Backup Job if you wish to back up the same files or folders you backed up the last time you did a backup job.)

6) Click on the Proceed with New button.

7) Click on  Start a new backup job now  -or- Back up only changes since Nov. 4, 2005 (or whatever date it says).

8) In the Description box, type in a name for this backup job, such as: "All Word Documents" or "Quicken folder".

9) Be sure that Compression is on (make sure there is a check mark in the box).

10) Click on the File Selection tab.

11) Click into the box next to each folder you wish to back up to the Zip Drive. (Each box you click on should turn blue.)

12) Double-click on the folder itself to see the sub-folders and/or files in that folder. If you click on only some of the sub-folders, you will see the box next to a folder turn half-blue. (A + sign next to a folder means that there are sub-folders in that folder. Click on the + sign to see these sub-folders.)

13) Click on the OK button.

14) Click on the Backup Now button.

15) Click on Don’t Erase or Erase (all files) depending on whether you wish to erase all previously-recorded files on that Zip Drive cartridge before you start this backup job.

16) Click on the OK button.

TO RESTORE YOUR FILES:

1) Double-click on the "1-Step Restore for Zip & Jaz".

2) Click on the Customize button.

3) Click into the box next to the folder that contains the Backup job you wish to restore (you may have to hunt for it by clicking or double-clicking on some folders). It should be called something like "Backup Job - All Word Docs - 11/4/05".)

4) Click on the OK button.

5) Click on the Restore Now button.

6) Click on Yes if the computer asks you if you want to replace (overwrite) any files.

7) Click on the OK button.

USING YOUR ZIP DRIVE LIKE A FLOPPY DISK DRIVE:

1) Open Windows Explorer. (If you don't have an icon for the Windows Explorer on the desktop, you can open the Windows Explorer by clicking on the Start button with the right mouse button, then clicking on Explore.)

2) Click on the file or folder you wish to copy to the Zip Drive with the right mouse button.

3) Click on Send To with the left or right mouse button.

4) Click on Removable Drive (E )* [Your Zip Drive may be another letter; click on the icon that looks like a blue or gray floppy disk drive, as long as it's not the 3 1/2" Floppy Disk Drive (A: Drive).]

5) To confirm that the file or folder was transferred to the Zip Drive, click on the icon for the Zip Drive on the left-hand side of the Explorer window.

6) To transfer a file or folder on the Zip Drive back to the hard disk (or any other disk, except the CD-ROM), right-click on the file and drag it to the appropriate icon for the C: drive or A: drive (or a folder on either drive), then let go of the mouse button as soon as the drive or folder icon is highlighted.

7) Click on Copy Here.

* If you don't have a "Removable Drive (E)" in your "Send to" menu, then follow this procedure:


1) Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking on the Start button, then clicking on Explore.

2) Find the right file or folder that you wish to copy to the Zip Drive.

3) Click on the icon for that file or folder with the right mouse button.

4) Click on Copy.

5) Scroll down on the left hand side of the window to the icon for the "Removable Drive (E )" [Your Zip Drive may be another letter such as F:.  Just click on the icon that looks like a blue or gray floppy disk drive.]

6) Click on the icon for the Removable Drive (E) with the right mouse button.

7) Click on Paste.

8) To confirm that the file or folder was transferred to the Zip Drive, click on the icon for the Zip Drive on the left-hand side of the Windows Explorer window.

TO RESTORE A FILE FROM YOUR ZIP DRIVE BACK TO THE HARD DISK:


1) To transfer a file or folder on the Zip Drive back to the hard disk (or any other disk, except the CD-ROM), right-click on the file or folder in Windows Explorer and drag it to the appropriate icon for the C: drive or A: drive, then release the mouse button as soon as the drive icon is highlighted.

2) Click on Copy Here.
